The name “Gunmachan-chi”, which means Gunmachan’s House, was selected by the committee based on public input and was named to in a way that would represent an at home kind of place.
Just like when "friends gathering to enjoy each other’s company and play game", the name comes with a hope that this space will be a place where people of the metropolitan area and Gunma prefecture can communicate freely.
"Gunmachan-chi" (Gunma General Information Center) was established to promote fascination with Gunma prefecture, based on the concept of being "The Information Center of Gunma".
Gunma prefecture also has beautiful natural settings like Oze and Mt.Tanigawadake in addition to famous Onsen (hot spring) resorts such as Kusatsu, Ikaho and Minakami.
In recent years, people are getting more interested to learn about the history and culture of Gunma prefecture, such as "Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Sites" now registered as a World Heritage Site and "The Three Stelae of Kozuke" also registered as a UNESCO Memory of the World.
"Gunmachan-chi" was established in 2008 in Ginza 5 chome and was reopened after remodeling in Ginza 7 chome in 2018.
